There’s no escaping it, holidaying changes when you have kids. No flinging a couple of outfits and bikini in hand luggage and taking a last-minute break. For sanity’s sake, getaways need a little planning! Luckily for you, helping make a child-friendly holiday possible is what we love to do.
Make planning easy with this guide to the essentials you’ll need (and details on how French Loaf has got it covered):
All the child/baby gear
Let’s start with the basics, all that baby/child paraphernalia it’s now second natural to lug around with you. So. Much. STUFF. Not only does packing take longer, it’s inevitable the spouse gets frustrated lugging around that case which only just passes the weight limits… At French Loaf we know how important it is your family feel safe and comfortable (and the peace of mind having everything you need “just in case” brings) which is why we’ve got all the gear you could need!
We’ve got everything from steriliser and bath mat, bouncer chair and baby monitor, to toilet training seat, bed guards, board games and books. Take a look at all the equipment we can provide here.
Our properties are designed with families in mind. Which means we have child-proofed where possible and given each villa/cottage a gorgeous home-from-home feel your little ones can settle in as quickly as possible.
Plenty of play space
You know what they say: happy kids equal happy parents. A child-friendly holiday needs to provide plenty of opportunities for young ones to unwind and have fun (so the adults can relax too). Our properties have lots of different play spaces, from the charming kid’s bedrooms to the beautiful gardens. Not to forget the wealth of family attractions which are waiting across the region. Water parks, outdoor museums, chateaus – there are plenty of places for children to safely run, jump, and play across Bordeaux and Dordogne.
Rather spend your break tucked away in your French holiday house enjoying lazy mornings and fun-filled afternoons? Then you’re going to need some family-friendly entertainment. Packing the kids iPads is always a good idea for travel, but when it comes to spending quality time together we recommend disconnecting from the digital world and having fun offline. Our properties include books, board games, puzzles, DVD player, and of course our lovely swimming pools! Splish-splash.
A stocked fridge
It’s a holiday highlight for me – the food! The kids always love the treats that are inevitable on a family getaway too. French pastries, fresh baguettes, ‘frites’… yummy. Reduce holiday grumbles with a well-stocked fridge from day one. At the end of a long journey we know you probably don’t fancy heading out to a supermarket to stock up, so we provide a Welcome Basket on arrival with the essentials to get you started (including milk, coffee, croissants). We can also offer the optional extra of a completely stocked fridge on arrival!
Children may be the focus of a child-friendly holiday, but that doesn’t mean us grown-ups can’t have a brilliant time. We just need to make sure there are a few grown-up luxuries thrown in! At French Loaf, our sophisticated interiors, high standards, and character-filled properties are a great starting point to a memorable holiday. Plus, we have lots of optional extras to treat yourself with: personal chef, mobile beauty treatments, wine & cheese tasting sessions… or maybe a professional nanny to keep the children entertained for some quality time with your other half.
Sense of adventure
If you really want to make your child-friendly holiday a blast it’s time to let go off the everyday and embrace your sense of adventure! Southern France is such a beautiful setting to immerse yourself in nature, history, and French culture as a family. A French holiday is the perfect chance to forget as many grown-up responsibilities as possible and enjoy the wonder of the world from your child’s point of view. Whether you’re discovering your new home for the week, or venturing across the French countryside – get out, explore, and have fun.
What makes the perfect child-friendly holiday for you? We’d love to find out.
