How to Have an Effortless Boys Getaway in the Dordogne
If you’re ready to escape the rat race and finally take some time out for you, the Dordogne is a wonderful base for French relaxation. Ideal for mates who want to getaway but have outgrown messy weekends and are looking to catch-up, connect, and have fun they’ll remember. Here’s our guide to planning a luxe holiday for the boys:
Get your golf on
A golf meet-up, isn’t it the epitome of a sophisticated male get together? Friendly competition, glorious sunshine, stunning grounds – and a bit of harmless banter on the side. If you fancy a day of Golf fun, there are numerous golf courses across the Dordogne and Bordeaux. Chateau Vigiers, only twenty five minutes from the properties, has a spectacular 27-hole golf course, rated one of the top 10 in South West France. Another top pick is Villeneuve-sur-lot’s 18-hole course.
Take a wine tour at Chateau Thénac
Slow down, look out at the sprawling greenery of East Bordeaux’s vineyards, and breathe. Chateau Thénac is beautiful situated in the Perigord region of France – amazing views and a truly tranquil setting for an afternoon of sophistication and indulgence. Sample the various fine wines and then get stuck into a bottle (or four) of your favourites. This elegant Chateau is nestled in almost 200 hectares of vines and makes such a gorgeous spot to relax with friends. Only 45 minutes away you can take your pick from one of the many world renowned wineries in Saint-Émillion.
Get on your bike and explore
If you’re the type of guys who want to soak up the sights while getting active, the Dordogne region on bike is exceptional. Visit Free Wheeling France for self-guided tours that will help you take in the historic and natural treasures of the area. Perigord and Quircy are both firm favourites with cyclists who visit here. Cycle by the mediaeval architecture and take in the tranquillity of the Dordogne and Lot rivers. From April – October is a great time for exploring on bike.
We love Bike Hire Direct who will deliver bikes directly to your holiday property, so you can take it from there at a pace that suits your group.
Pamper and preen
No shame here if your boy’s getaway involves pampering yourselves. We’ve heard good things about ‘Les Sources de Caudalie’ near Bordeaux, which has a beautiful spa with a rustic look and focus on nature and ‘Vinothérapie® (yes, that relates to wine!). The Vinothérapie® Spa combines the virtues of warm mineral-rich spring water with scientific discoveries on the benefits of grapes and vines. Expert wine therapists will use treatments based on Caudalie products with anti-oxidant and anti-aging properties – like their Cabernet Crush scrub.
After every treatment you’ll be offered fresh grapes and herbal tea to help you continue the Vine therapy and your relaxation. There’s a 2 Michelin Star restaurant on site too if you want to really treat yourself.
